Tottenham Hotspur beat Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Tottenham Hotspur strengthened their case for third place – or at least a top four finish – by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Spurs were beaten 1-0 at Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, giving them something of a comedown from their Champions League win over Pep Guardiola’s side.
A home game against Brighton was seen as the ideal way to hit back, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men toiled against a determined and gritty and Seagulls side fighting for their Premier League status.
With just moments to go, it looked like Brighton had seen off the threat. Mat Ryan made a host of saves, whilst Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy nullified Fernando Llorente and got blocks in time and time again.
However, Christian Eriksen snatched a late winner, smashing a long-range strike into the net with his ‘weaker’ left foot, giving Tottenham all three points and tightening their grip on third place.
Tottenham got really desperate in search of a winner, even throwing on Vincent Janssen for his first Spurs appearance in almost two years in order to try and find a winner.
The Dutchman has come back into the mix with Harry Kane out injured, and whilst he didn’t score, many felt it was great to see him given another chance by Pochettino.
Janssen today took to Twitter to send a message to fans, admitting that he is ‘so happy’ to be back in the Spurs first team setup, adding to never give up no matter what.
