Vincent Janssen has no regrets over leaving Tottenham when he did.
Janssen joined Fenerbahce on a season long loan last month, after it had been made clear to him he was not in their first team plans.
Spurs signed Fernando Llorente to take his place in the side, and omitted him from their Champions League squad.
Janssen was left facing months on the sidelines, and is glad he left when he did.
He said: “That (Fenerbahce) was the perfect solution for me
“A solution in injury time, but one I’m really happy with. It became concrete on a Thursday, on Friday morning I sat at the plane at 7 o’clock.”
Janssen has had a reasonable start in Turkey, getting game time already and he has managed to find the scoresheet too, something he did not do at Spurs in his first few months at the club.
Discussing his time in England, Janssen admitted it was a big step up from the Eredivisie, where he had finished top scorer the year before with AZ Alkmaar.
He said: “The Premier League is just an incredibly strong competition. The pace, the physical strength, the level.
“You always play against two famous defenders. You just have to get used to it. Of course I knew that in advance. But then, the difference remains big, certainly in such a first year.”
Spurs had high hopes when they signed Janssen, but it is notable that they still retain his registration as he is only on loan.
A strong season in Turkey could yet lead to another chance, especially if Fernando Llorente is also unable to grasp his chance in North London.
