The Tottenham Hotspur striker was allegedly pushed towards the exit this summer but refused a late move.

Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at White Hart Lane on August 29, 2015 in London, England.

According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy was left furious when Vincent Janssen rejected a late move away from the club, but if that is true the Spurs supremo only has himself to blame.

After all, he signed the Dutchman in the first place, having seen him shine for AZ Alkmaar, and with a contract until the summer of 2020 Janssen is well within his rights to stay and fight for his place.

Tottenham are one of the best clubs at tying their talent down to long-term deals and ensuring that it will take huge sums to prise them away. But on the flip-side they cannot complain if a player does not want to jump ship at the first suggestion of failure.

Janssen allegedly had the chance to move to West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City or Brighton and Hove Albion on deadline day, only to refuse all three options.

It is a decision that Levy is said to be unhappy with. However he signed the player and put the contract in front of him. He cannot be overly upset if, rather than accepting a move that will see him playing week in, week out, he wants to give it a little longer at Tottenham. In fact that is admirable as we approach a World Cup year.

Acknowledging that he currently plays for a top club, Janssen is unlikely to want to accept defeat so soon, even if Tottenham brought in Fernando Llorente in the final throes of the transfer window.

He should still get chances, if only in the EFL Cup, and it is admirable that he is willing to accept his limited chances but attempt to make the most of them regardless.

Levy has long benefited from the contracts he offers and the players he signed and, on this occasion, he has no one to blame for the Janssen situation but himself.
