The Tottenham Hotspur striker has failed to impress since his move to the club in the summer.

Spurs striker Vincent Janssen spoke to reporters following his side’s important 2-1 win over Southampton on Sunday, and expressed his delight with the hard-earned three points, despite admitting his frustration at once again failing to find the back of the net, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Dutchman finally got off the mark from open play last week against Millwall in the FA Cup quarter final, taking his total tally to five goals in 31 games since he made the switch to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be in the region of £17 million.

Many of his appearances have been five-minute cameos, in his defence, and he must surely still be given more time if he is to go on and prove his worth to Mauricio Pochettino.

And the 22-year-old spoke to reporters about how he tried to help his team when he came on for Christian Eriksen in the 86th minute against Southampton, as quoted by TottenhamHotspur.com:

“It was important to get the three points. When I came on I tried to keep the ball and tried to maybe score a goal. I tried, the goal didn’t happen but I think it was good to get some minutes. They are a good team so we had to keep hold of the three points and that’s what we did at the end.”

The Lilywhites face a vital few weeks following the international break, as they look to make inroads into Chelsea’s 10 point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

But whether Janssen manages to have a defining impact on the rest of their campaign remains to be seen.
