Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen is a talented player, but it is fair to say that he has been a huge disappointment this season.

Janssen joined Tottenham from AZ in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £17 million.

The 22-year-old striker arrived at White Hart Lane with a strong reputation, but he has failed to live up to expectation.

The Netherlands international has scored only two goals and created just 15 chances in 24 Premier League matches for Spurs so far this campaign.

Janssen works hard on the pitch and links up well with his teammates, but he simply cannot score goals often enough.

The former Almere City striker has explained his struggles at Tottenham this season.

“Good question,” Janssen told The Sun when asked why he has struggled to score this season. “Sometimes I have been a bit unlucky and hit the post or bar or the keeper has pulled off a great save.

“But I cannot put it all down to just this. Strikers in England get less time than in Holland and it took me a while to get used to that.

“I know I have missed some chances but that’s part of being a striker and I know it’s part of being a striker that when you don’t score people talk about it. So I want to change that.”

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 74 points from 33 matches, just four points behind leaders and London rivals Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will return to action on Sunday evening when they take on Arsenal at White Hart Lane in the league.
