West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for the Tottenham Hotspur forward.
According to the Sun, West Bromwich Albion are confident of signing both Kevin Wimmer and Vincent Janssen from Tottenham Hotspur, and if the Dutch striker does arrive at The Hawthorns he could be the unlikely player to push the Baggies to the next level.
Janssen arrived at Spurs with a reputation as a top striker – at least in his homeland – where he scored 32 goals in 49 games for AZ Alkmaar. But as with so many Eredivisie forwards before him, he struggled to make a significant impact in the Premier League in his debut campaign.
So far Janssen has managed six goals and four assists in 39 matches for Tottenham, but it would be foolish to write him off so soon.
After all, the Dutch international has been used predominantly as a substitute in North London and he was always going to take time to settle in his new environment. Then there is the fact he is still only 23, potentially years away from his peak.
If West Brom seal a deal for the £15million being suggested, they could bring in a player with a massive point to prove while his ability in front of goal has not disappeared overnight.
If the Baggies played Janssen week in, week out, he could rediscover the form that made him such a hit in the Netherlands, and his seven goals in just 13 matches for his country proves that his struggles at Tottenham do not tell the whole story.
West Brom have started this season in impressive fashion and, if Janssen signs and ultimately fulfils his potential, they could have one of Europe’s best young goal-scorers on their books.
