The 22-year-old has struggled with Tottenham Hotspur so far.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen has told Helden that he is not surprised about how much Spurs paid to sign him.

The 22-year-old joined Tottenham in an £18.5 million deal in the summer (according to The Mail) after netting 30 times for AZ Alkmaar last season.

But the Netherlands forward is struggling to justify the money spent on bringing him to North London.

So far, Janssen has only managed to three score times – twice in the League Cup, once in the Premier League – but all three of his goals came from the penalty spot.

He has 15 senior appearances for Spurs under his belt – including 11 in the league – but it certainly seems like he has a ways to go before he becomes a success at White Hart Lane.

But Jansen has revealed that other clubs were prepared to gazump the Premier League side in the bidding for him, but his heart was set on joining the Lilywhites.

Asked by Helden if he was surprised he cost so much money after one good season in the Eredivisie, he said: “Actually not, because there were clubs even willing to pay more money than the Spurs but I immediately told AZ:. I just want to Spurs and not to a club that you might be offering more.”
