The £17m striker made his bow in the friendly defeat to Juventus in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Vincent Janssen has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official Twitter account that it was “a privilege” to finally pull on the Spurs shirt after his £17 million transfer in the friendly defeat to Juventus on Tuesday.
Janssen started the match against the Italian champions in Melbourne and impressed on occasion throughout the match despite being starved of service for much of the game.
He showed some nice touches and made several intelligent runs in attack but was ultimately shackled well by the imperious Juve defence before being substituted just after the hour mark.
The 22-year-old scored 31 goals for AZ Alkmaar last season but will be eager to prove himself in England and justify his price tag by replicating that sort of form.
For now, however, he is just thrilled to get his first taste of outdoor action for Spurs, and he admitted that he is loving the bonding trip to Australia to get to know his teammates.
The Dutch striker told the club’s Twitter account: “It was a real privilege to play my first Tottenham game in public.
“It’s a great trip for me – a great week to get to know my team-mates. They’ve made me feel welcome.”
Janssen is likely to be competing with last season’s Premier League golden boot winner Harry Kane for the lone striker spot at White Hart Lane this season, but he is certain to get significant action across the next 10 months.
Spurs will have to juggle a Premier League title challenge with a Champions League group-stage campaign, and rotation is likely to be the name of the game for Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to keep his side fresh throughout the season.
