Aston Villa are reportedly keen on Koln’s Jhon Cordoba – but that may just raise further questions about Jonathan Kodjia’s future.

According to The Sun, Aston Villa are interested in snapping up Koln striker Jhon Cordoba – and the rumours may just add some weight to Everton’s alleged interest in signing Jonathan Kodjia.

Villa are hovering around the Championship play-off places after four wins in a row, and Steve Bruce will be hoping to continue that form over the coming months ahead of the January transfer window.

Bruce has been consistently backed by owner Tony Xia when it comes to new signings, and links are already emerging about Bruce’s interest in signing a new striker when the transfer window re-opens.

The Sun report that Villa want to land Koln striker Jhon Cordoba in January, though given that Kicker claim that his summer move from Mainz cost £14million, Villa may just struggle to come up with a fee to land him…unless somebody leaves.

The pursuit of another striker, even when Bruce already has Scott Hogan and Keinan Davis at his disposal, may just raise question marks over the future of striker Jonathan Kodjia, who is attracting Premier League interest.

The Birmingham Mail recently noted that Everton are one of the clubs interested in signing Kodjia, and a move to Goodison Park for the Ivorian could well lead to Bruce pushing for Cordoba’s signature.

Kodjia, 27, hit 19 goals for Villa last season following a big-money move from Bristol City, whilst he has notched one goal and one assist this term having returned from injury to give Bruce a major boost in attack.

The Ivorian international has pace, skill and real finishing ability, three attributes desperately lacking in the Everton attack right now, though he would have to become less selfish to really become a Premier League success.

Villa won’t want to lose their talismanic striker, but with Everton keen and links emerging to a big-money striker, fans may be fearing that Kodjia could be heading to the top flight in January.
