Villarreal want Ben Brereton Diaz and are even confident of beating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in the race.

Villarreal’s season has been rocked by Aston Villa’s decision to sack Steven Gerrard.

Villa swooped to land Unai Emery as their new manager, prising him away from Villarreal.

Quique Setien has come in but two defeats in three has left him under pressure already and Villarreal need to stabilise in 2023.

Villarreal want Ben Brereton Diaz

New signings will be vital to Setien and Villarreal don’t exactly have the biggest budget in the world.

Villarreal will need to find bargains and they appear to have in mind in the former of Blackburn Rovers hitman Brereton Diaz.

The Sun claim that Villarreal want to sign Brereton Diaz on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old is ready to see out the final months of his Rovers contract whilst trying to help the club secure promotion.

Villarreal seemingly believe that they have a real chance at signing Brereton Diaz for free and believe that can beat West Ham and Tottenham to his signature.

West Ham have been chasing Brereton Diaz for a while now with David Moyes always having one eye on Championship talents.

90Min claimed just a few days ago that Tottenham have been scouting Brereton Diaz ahead of a possible move.

One huge advantage Villarreal hold over Tottenham and West Ham is that they can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Brereton Diaz.

English clubs can’t do that with England-based players, so Villarreal have something of a head-start on Tottenham and West Ham.

Villarreal will also be able to offer a key first-team role whilst Tottenham and West Ham would likely view Brereton Diaz as competition in the final third.

Branded ‘extraordinary’ by former Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray, Brereton Diaz isn’t short of suitors but may end up leaving English football for a Spanish experience.
