Would Burnley striker Nahki Wells or Leicester’s Leonardo Ulloa be the better option for Aston Villa in January?

Steve Bruce has identified two striker targets for Aston Villa in the January transfer window in Burnley’s Nahki Wells and Leonardo Ulloa of Leicester City, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Bruce wants to add an experienced forward to his squad because of a long-term injury to Jonathan Kodjia, but funds are limited as the club tread carefully in order not to breach Financial Fair Play rules.

There is a chance that both players could leave their respective sides in the new year, but which would be the better option for the Villans?

Wells has more experience in the Championship having scored 45 goals in 144 games in the division for Huddersfield Town, but is yet to play this season following a £5m switch from the Terriers to Turf Moor.

The 27-year-old may therefore be a little rusty and does not operate in the same physical style to Kodjia, something that is not the case with Ulloa.

The Foxes attacker also has a better record in the second tier of English football, netting 23 times in 50 matches for Brighton and Hove Albion previously and has also played extensively in the Premier League.

Therefore, despite being four years older than Wells, it would seem that landing Ulloa – a powerful targetman with an eye for goal – would be the superior deal for Villa and could greatly boost their promotion chances.
