The Villans have opted to open the Upper Trinity stand ahead of Friday’s crunch Championship clash against the Blades.

The Trinity Road Stand prior to the FA Cup fifth round match between Aston Villa and Leicester City at Villa Park on February 15, 2015 in Birmingham, England.

When Aston Villa were relegated from the Premier League, the decision was made for Villa Park’s Trinity Road Upper Stand to be closed in order to ‘maximise’ support for the club, according to the Birmingham Mail.

Since then, however, the Upper Trinity has been reopened for certain games, such as against Stoke City and Leeds United in December this season, and for the game against Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup last month.

Villa have now announced that Friday night’s Championship meeting with Sheffield United will also see the Upper Trinity open, a game that, should the hosts win, would see them edge to within one point of the playoffs.

The Blades are currently third in the table and, following Leeds United’s loss to Norwich City last Saturday, sit three points from the top two, but given their superior goal difference, would go top with victory in Birmingham ahead of Saturday’s games.

Very high stakes for both sides then, hence the club’s decision to open up the Upper Trinity makes sense, given demand for the game is sure to be high and the extra support could just make the difference in Villa emerging triumphant.

Reaction from the fanbase on Twitter has been mixed, with some pleased with the decisions and others taking a more sceptical view:
