Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede.
According to the Guardian, Crystal Palace are considering a January bid for Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede.
With Steve Bruce set to lose both Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew in January due to their impending participation in the African Cup of Nations, it is unlikely that he will allow one of his strikers to leave, unless he can bring another body through the door.
An ideal solution would be for Villa to take Fraizer Campbell as part of any kind of potential deal that sees Gestede go in the opposite direction.
Aston Villa’s Rudy Gestede celebrates
The 29-year-old is experienced at Championship level, and would provide Steve Bruce with an entirely different option.
He plays off the shoulder of the last defender, and is always willing to make unselfish runs into the channels, which provides his teammates with more space in which to work.
The former Manchester United striker moved to Selhurst Park in the summer of 2014, but has failed to establish himself as a regular starter under Alan Pardew.
Crystal Palace’s Fraizer Campbell celebrates
He has made just three appearances for the Eagles this term, and should Palace bring Gestede into the football club, it is unlikely that they would put up much resistance to any approaches for Campbell.
And despite a drop down in divisions, Campbell would surely not be adverse to moving to Villa, should he be given assurances of regular first-team football.
With the January transfer window just around the corner, this will certainly be one to keep an eye out for.
