Aston Villa are said to be targeting Stuttgart central midfielder William Kvist in January. The 27 year old Dane has played 33 times for the German club without registering a goal. He possesses more defensive qualities rather than attacking and would cost in the region of £6m.
Stephen Ireland is so dedicated to the Villa cause that he vows to continue playing through the pain barrier. The Irish midfielder made his comeback against Fulham last weekend, wearing a temporary cast. Technically his wrist is still broken but he would rather play than not, “It’ still broken but they’ve said I can play. It’s not quite pain free, but it’s enough so I can play and I don’t want to be out any longer so I’m happy to do that, even if it is uncomfortable.”
“I’d rather play through the pain than not play at all, because I really want to be in the team as much as I can this year.”
As the weekend grows nearer talk is hotting up regarding the potentially bad blooded encounter between Aston Villa and Norwich City this weekend. The ‘Vital Norwich’ website has claimed that the match will feel like a “derby” game and that Villa are under far more pressure to get a result than the Canaries, “A City loss would not be unexpected, and there are relatively easy games to follow. A Villa loss could define their season. Make no mistake, the pressure is all on Paul Lambert and Aston Villa to get a result.”
Villa fans have been told not to worry about the team’s lack of potency this season, as the goals will come very soon. That is the view of Austrian striker Andreas Weimann, who, instead of talking himself up, has shouted out his support for fellow forward Benteke. “I haven’t played with Christian before but in training he looks superb.”
“He’s a big guy who will hold the ball up for you. He’s not showed it in the games yet but he can certainly finish. We’ve seen that in training.
“I get the feeling if he gets one goal things will start for him. That will get him going. I think he will score plenty.”
Villa take on the green and white hoops at Celtic Park tonight in the NextGen series. Villa defeated their Scottish counterparts at Villa Park 2-1 and need to win if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
Finally ex Villa stars will be turning out in a Leukemia Research Charity Match in support of Stiliyan Petrov. The game will be played on Sunday November 18th and will see members of Villa’s 1982 European Cup winning team facing a team of Petrov’s friends.
