The Aston Villa boss has been talking about the prospect of losing key players this season.

In a recent interview with the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce made an interesting comment when asked about the prospect of losing Conor Hourihane mid-season.

“Nobody will leave unless it’s ridiculous sums of money,” Bruce told the Birmingham Mail.

But the club’s supporters will be hoping nobody leaves regardless of the offer, with Villa on the verge of a potentially brilliant season following a significant upturn in form.

A few short weeks ago it looked like Villa would be stuck in the second tier for a third straight season. Yet now there are genuine reasons for excitement, with Bruce settling on a side that has the beating of many other Championship clubs, bringing Albert Adomah in from the cold, welcoming Jonathan Kodjia back after injury and putting his faith in some exciting youngsters.

Such as been Villa’s resurgence that there will be plenty of clubs sniffing around in January, with the likes of Hourihane, Kodjia and Keinan Davis potentially on their wish lists.

That said, Villa will only win promotion back to the Premier League if they keep this squad together, and there is far more ridiculous money on offer if they get back there than if they cash in on one or two star men in 2018.

Bruce knows that, and hopefully the Villa hierarchy do, too, because if they keep everyone at the club for the rest of the campaign, a top-six finish is well within their grasp, and from there, they can put their recent nightmares behind them.
