Manchester United’s poor form has left the outgoing defender shocked.
Outgoing Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic admits he did not foresee the Old Trafford outfit suffering such a poor season.
The 32-year-old will join Inter next term after officially agreeing to leave Man United at the end of the current campaign and, in so doing, will end eight years at the club.
But, in his last season with the United team, Vidic admits things have gone a lot worse than he expected.
Despite insisting that manager David Moyes must be given time in the Old Trafford hot seat, the Serbian says he is surprised at how badly the campaign has gone, especially after yesterday’s 3-0 defeat at home to arch rivals Liverpool.
“What’s gone wrong [at United this season]? There’s been a lot of talking. We changed our manager and our director. It’s been a transition,” Vidic told Sky.
“Moyes needs time to adapt to the players and the same goes for us with him but I did not think things would have been so bad.
“I am surprised [about how the season has turned out]. I knew it would be a hard season and we might not win as many trophies.”
The 32-year-old, however, added that he is not leaving Manchester United because Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer in charge of the club.
“The fact that Sir Alex Ferguson has left has nothing to do with my decision to leave the United,” he said.

As Opta stats show, Vidic’s contributions at the back for United could perhaps be a factor for their disappointing season, with the 32-year-old winning less duels, interceptions and tackles than some of his defensive counterparts.
The Serb has also committed an error that led to a goal – something four members of United’s back line have done – although he has made the most effective clearances of any Man United defender by some distance.
