Should Newcastle United return to the top flight, where do fans think they will finish next season? Will Benitez’ men be fighting for Europe or battling relegation?
Sitting comfortably in second spot, just one point off leaders Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United are well on their way to completing a swift return to the Premier League. Under Rafa Benitez, Newcastle United have arguably one of the best, if not the best, sides in the division this season and wholly deserve promotion, should they achieve it.
But how will Newcastle United get on in the Premier League under Benitez? During his last spell with Newcastle in the top flight, Benitez failed to keep the Magpies up. However, it is arguable that enough damage had already been done by the time Benitez arrived, and that he should now be judged only on what he can do with a squad he’s built: something he’s been able to do this season.
So how are Newcastle United fans feeling about the future? HITC Sport went to ask them just that…
Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey celebrates with the Newcastle fans
“Eighth” and “Mid-table!” where the initial responses from Newcastle United fans, who were feeling pretty confident about their side’s potential in the Premier League next season. “Benitez will get seventh when we get promoted, and it’s a when, not an if!” said another Newcastle United fan, who could picture his side back on Match of the Day already!
“I think they might be struggling again” was the response from a few other Newcastle United fans however, who were less than confident about the Magpies return to the top flight. “It’s usually the case with the promoted team” reminded one Magpies fan, with another suggesting that “Rafa will leave.”
With Newcastle United mostly riding a wave of optimism, it’s unlikely to think the side would be struggling to stay up next season. But then again, it is Newcastle!
