With Sunderland struggling at the foot of the Premier League, would Newcastle fans take any of their rivals’ best players if given the choice?
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Sunderland fans will be hoping to see their side strengthened next month. As the Black Cats look set to be taking part in yet another relegation battle in 2017, David Moyes will certainly be hoping to add to his squad, but any new arrivals would certainly result in players departing, as Sunderland aim to keep their squad as balanced as possible.
Jack Colback of Newcastle United
With the possibility of players being up for sale in January, Newcastle United may well be keeping a close eye on who is in favour and who isn’t at Sunderland in January. After signing Jack Colback in the past, Newcastle United have shown that they’re not afraid to use their biggest rivals for players, and with Sunderland’s place in the Premier League up for debate, some Black Cats players might be keeping their eye out for the possibility of staying in the Premier League with the likely-to-be-promoted Newcastle.
With that in mind, HITC Sport asked Newcastle United fans which Sunderland players they might like to see in a black and white shirt.
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe
Despite a number of resolute Newcastle fans claiming that they’d never want a player from their arch-rivals, some Magpies fans pointed at former England international, Jermain Defoe. Though now at the ripe old age of 34, Defoe is still proving he can score goals at the highest level of English football. However, one Newcastle fans did cast some considerable doubt over a potential move for Defoe, claiming that the forward is “older than his mother”.
