Tottenham Hotspur may be having second thoughts about signing goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a permanent basis.

The Spaniard arrived at White Hart Lane on a season-long loan from Espanyol, but is yet to feature for Spurs at senior level.

Nevertheless, it was reported by Catalan newspaper, Sport, in February that Mauricio Pochettino has already made up his mind to buy Lopez outright at a cost of £6 million.

However, the Argentine may hope there are still some ‘I’s to dot and ‘T’s to cross after the 22-year-old’s display in Tottenham’s Premier League 2 defeat to Arsenal, of all teams, on Friday.

Lopez was partially at fault as Yaya Sanogo fired in a first-half opener, after another guilty party, Josh Pritchard, had tried to dribble his way out of defence.

In fairness, Lopez redeemed himself somewhat with a double save to keep Spurs in the game late on, although he was eventually beaten for a second time by Arsenal’s Donyell Malen, who wrapped up the points for the hosts at London Colney.

Should Tottenham press ahead with the signing of Lopez?
