In a video posted on Twitter by Football London’s Tottenham page, teenage defender Charlie Sayers is seen training with the senior side ahead of Wednesday’s clash against AC Milan in the second round of their Champions League tie.
Sayers, 18, only joined Tottenham 18 months ago, opting to move to Spurs after breaking into Southend’s senior side. Since, he has been playing for the Under-18’s, and then the Under-21’s more recently – playing 10 times, scoring once.
His form in the second string has clearly caught the attention of Antonio Conte. Spurs are preparing for their clash against Milan in North London, with the scoreline currently seeing Spurs trail 1-0. It is absolutely must-win for Spurs.
With the Champions League allowing 12 substitutes to be named, it is likely a couple of younger players will be on the bench for Spurs. Sayers may be one of those, after being spotted alongside Alfie Devine on 35 seconds in the video.

There is very little chance that Sayers gets on but it is a real sign for the defender that he is catching the eye of the Tottenham management. It is the least he deserves, given his form for the club’s U23 side. He scored last time out.
A goal in a 4-3 defeat in Premier League 2 to Fulham. Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman and Devine were named on the bench last time out. Can Spurs pull it off? You would expect they could still be slight favourites, despite trailing 1-0.
But what is absolutely crucial, is that Spurs score the first goal. Conte’s return to the dugout will give the Spurs squad a boost to have their manager back in situ. Sayers could be one of those watching from the Tottenham bench.
