With Victor Anichebe proving his critics wrong at the Stadium of Light, what do Sunderland fans make of the former West Brom reject?

After leaving Everton in 2013, Victor Anichibe’s footballing career had stagnated. Moving to West Bromwich Albion, the Nigerian forward made only 55 appearances for the Baggies over the course of three years, a lot of those featuring as a substitute. After scoring only 6 goals, Anichebe was allowed to leave the Hawthorns this summer on a free, with many anticipating a drop down a division for the former Everton man.

And then in stepped David Moyes. His former manager at Everton offered Anichebe a lifeline, and a chance to lead the line consistently in a Premier League team. Knowing this could potentially be his final shot, Anichebe has taken his opportunity with both hands, scoring 3 goals in his last 8 games, and making a big impact on defences with his strength and physicality.

With their new talisman in mind, HITC Sport asked Sunderland fans for their views on Victor Anichebe.

“He’s only played a few games this year and he’s a legend already!” claimed one Sunderland fan, who was clearly delighted at the impact in which the Nigerian forward has made. Other fans also complimented Anichebe on his ability to hold the ball up, and make space for other attacking players like Jermain Defoe. “The fans got behind him straight away, and you could see how he lifted his game” said another Sunderland fan, who can see the impact in which the Sunderland fans have made on Anichebe’s game.

“He’s a big lad, he’s the type of player Sunderland fans like” suggested another Sunderland fan, who has been impressed by Anichebe’s physicality.
