With Sunderland fans bracing themselves for another potential fire-sale, what player exit devastated them the most?
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Sunderland AFC fans are anticipating another dramatic month for the Black Cats. After manager, David Moyes, revealed recently that the club would not have much money to spend on players, Sunderland fans are expecting to see a number of departures, as the club looks for ways to fund new players coming into the club.
With the transfer situation at the club complicated further by owner Ellis Short’s desperation to sell the club, January could potentially be a key month for Sunderland, not just in the sense of bringing in and potentially losing players, but also for their status as a Premier League club.
With this in mind, HITC Sport asked Sunderland fans for their thoughts on their club’s transfer activity over the years.
Sunderland’s Younes Kaboul and Lee Cattermole
“There’s been so many over the years who have left Sunderland and are still playing Premier League football” suggested one Sunderland fan, who was disappointed at the amount of players who have left the club. “But no one player is bigger than the club” added another, who defended Sunderland selling players who’s hearts were set elsewhere.
Other Sunderland fans named players such as Younes Kaboul, James McClean and Darren Bent, who left the club for Aston Villa, as ones they were sorry to see leave. One Sunderland fan even suggested that, if Darren Bent had stayed at Sunderland, he could have ended up becoming a legend at the club.
