Having sold Patrick Van Aanholt to Crystal Palace in January, will Sunderland fans miss their former left-back?
As many Sunderland fans expected, it’s been a testing month for the Black Cats. With no money to spend, but in desperate need of strengthening their side for the relegation battle ahead, Sunderland fans as well as David Moyes are left between a rock and a hard place.
Knowing they needed to sell to be able to buy, it was no huge surprise to see Sunderland’s more valuable assets, like Dutch left-back Patrick Van Aanholt, leave the club for handsome fees, especially when former Sunderland managers come sniffing. Now at Crystal Palace under Sam Allardyce, Van Aanholt is aiding another side’s relegation cause.
But just how much will Sunderland miss Van Aanholt? Will the former Chelsea youngster’s absence have that bigger impact? Or are Sunderland in fact better off without him? HITC Sport asked Black Cats fans for their views and opinions…

Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt looks dejected
“It’s a good deal, money wise, other than that, of course it’s not a good deal. He’s one of our best players!” was the response from one Sunderland fan, when asked whether Van Aanholt’s move to Crystal Palace was a good bit of business.
“Of course it is, he was useless!” replied another Sunderland fan, whose opinion of Van Aanholt wasn’t particularly high. “He’s scores a lot of goals, but then he makes up for that with his defensive errors” said one other Sunderland fan, who also saw the deal as a good bit of business for the club.
“It’s a good deal for someone who can’t defend” added another. Has Sam Allardyce made a serious blunder on splashing the cash on Van Aanholt? Will it be Crystal Palace for relegation? Or Sunderland?
