Can they go all the way? Will their experience last season galvanise Spurs in the run-in?
After what looked like their best chance for a Premier League title for many years last season, Tottenham Hotspur fans were more than disappointed to see their team emphatically collapse at the end of the season, falling behind both Leicester City and arch-rivals Arsenal, eventually finishing third. However, rather than bring their side down, last season’s finish appears to have galvanised Pochettino’s men, who are once again on the charge for the top four and beyond this season.
So could this be their year? Chelsea, now managed by former Juventus and Italy coach Antonio Conte, have extended their lead at the top of the table, and Arsenal and Liverpool are both looking strong.
HITC Sport asked Tottenham Hotspur fans for their views on Spurs title chances.
Son Heung Min celebrates scoring for Tottenham Hotspur
“We’re a lot stronger, we’ve got a very young side, the back four’s probably the most experienced. We’ve learnt a lot from last season I believe, but I’m just being cautiously optimistic” said one Spurs fan, for who the memory of last season wasn’t yet far enough away. Another Spurs fan, when asked if Spurs can win the title, said “My heart says of course we can, but my head, after 44 years, says we’re never going to win it.”
Spurs fans have been let down before, and quite rightly, there’s not many who are letting their team’s good form get them carried away. There’s a clear optimism and a buzz amongst Spurs fans this season, but whether they can win the league remains to be seen.
