After bagging three goals in his first two games since signing in a £15 million deal from Napoli, how do Southampton fans rate Manolo Gabbiadini?
Southampton fans have gotten used to over-achieving in recent years. After surprising everyone under Mauricio Pochettino, the Saints achieved their highest Premier League finish under Ronald Koeman, before the Dutchman departed for a new challenge with Everton.
Turning to France, Southampton brought in former OGC Nice manager, Claude Puel. Gaining plaudits in his home country for Nice’s high finish and the part he played in the revitalisation of Hatem Ben Arfa, Claude Puel has enjoyed a mixed start to life at St Marys. Currently sat 11th in the table, many Southampton fans feel the club haven’t progressed under Puel’s tenure, whereas others would point out the club’s number of injuries as a major fact.
However, one new signing appears to have brought a smile back to Saints fans faces; Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini. Arriving from Italian giants Napoli in January, Gabbiadini has exploded onto the scene, scoring two goals recently against Sunderland.
So what do Southampton fans think about their new striker? HITC Sport went to ask them…
Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini celebrates
“He’s brilliant” said one Saints fan, who was clearly delighted with Southampton’s new signing. “We found somebody who knows how to score, it’s fantastic” added another Saints fan, “it’s only the second game I’ve seen him but he’s scored three goals…he knows where the net is, and that’s all you need to know really.”
With Charlie Austin out injured, the move for Manolo Gabbiadini could well be a masterstroke by Claude Puel, and may well win him a few more fans in Southampton. Clearly, Saints fans are happy to see them sign a big name player for big money, rather than selling one, during the last transfer window.
