The Aston Villa goalie made a rare mistake in the Championship defeat.
Villa keeper Sam Johnstone in action
Aston Villa’s incredible run of form has come to an end, with the Championship’s other form team Fulham winning the game 2-0 at Craven Cottage.
Villa, who had won seven Championship games in a row, were outplayed for much of the game and goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Floyd Ayite proved enough for the Cottagers to claim the victory.
Sam Johnstone of Aston Villa (L) saves a shot
The Villa cause was not helped by some uncharacteristic mistakes from usually dependable players, like Sam Johnstone.
The goalkeeper, on loan from Manchester United, has been in fine form this season at Villa Park and has rarely put a foot wrong.
But the second goal today was all his own doing, as you can see in this clip from Channel 5 Sport’s twitter account:
Johnstone simply skewed his kick, with the ball barely making the halfway line and landing at the feet of Fulham’s attacker Ayite.
The fact the Togo international then sent the ball spiralling into the back of the net was just punishment for Johnstone’s unlucky moment.
Hopefully this remains a rare occurrence for Aston Villa’s talented goalkeeper, as the club try get on another winning streak soon.
