There was no Premier League football this weekend, but non-league side FC United of Manchester were one of the many lower league sides in action.
On their team is 36-year-old Rhodri Giggs, brother of Ryan – who was in action against Frickley Athletic at the weekend, and had a notable impact.
In the 50th minute with the score at 0-0, United cleared a Frickley corner upfield, and Rhodri Giggs began chasing down and applying pressure on the defender. What happened next was quite bizarre.
Defender Steven Gardner attempted a 40-yard backpass – only to get it desperately wrong as the ball sailed straight over the stranded goalkeeper into the net for a spectacular own goal.
