Leeds United's Ryan Edmondson in action during the Pre-season Friendly match between York City and Leeds United on July 10, 2019 in York, England.

Ryan Edmondson showed a subtler side to his game for Leeds United’s under-23s on Monday.

Edmondson has been a prolific goalscorer for Leeds’ under-23 side over the past 18 months.

Marcelo Bielsa has been reluctant to give him a chance in the first team so far this season, but his assist against Crewe could do Edmondson’s chances some good.

Edmondson played in a defence splitting assist to midfielder Robbie Gotts, which benefitted from a minor deflection, for Leeds to pull a goal back.

Former York City trainee Edmondson has been seen as a powerhouse at under-23 level, more of a bruiser due to his imposing physical stature.

This goal showed he has a little bit extra to his game, and it could help catch first team manager Marcelo Bielsa’s eye.

Leeds are struggling to break teams down, and Edmondson is an option they might need to turn to at some stage.

This showed he can be a creator as well as just a scorer.
