Liverpool published a video of their open training session ahead of their Champions League game against Ajax this week, and, to be honest, it was quite boring.
We’ll level with you. This 30-minute video isn’t worth a watch, there’s very little ball work being done and to call it anything other than a glorified warm-up would be remiss.
Liverpool players went through various drills off the ball, stretching, running and jumping as they prepared for a crucial Champions League clash on Wednesday.
However, as dull as this session seemed to be, there was one moment of this video that caught our eye.
Indeed, during a drill where Liverpool players had to jog and jump, Darwin Nunez showcased his physical ability with a huge leap that stood out a mile off.
At around 20:43 in the video, Nunez leaps into the air, and while everyone else was barely getting off of the ground, the Uruguayan jumped like a salmon.
Nunez showed more intensity than most other players in this drill, while his actual leap was borderline ridiculous.
Standing at 6’2, Nunez is already an incredible physical specimen, but his combination of pace and explosiveness allows him to possess a jump that most NBA players would be jealous of – hence why Michael Owen recently described him as ‘powerful’.
The striker is a menace when it comes to aerial duels, and this clip shows why, he can get higher than almost any other player and if he refines his technique, he may well be one of the most useful target men in England.
Another small shoutout has to go to Harvey Elliott during this drill. He also got up well for a player of his stature, but Nunez still managed to blow his attempt out of the water.
