Newcastle United’s Mikel Merino was on target for Spain Under-21s on Friday.

If his goal on international duty with Spain Under-21s is anything to go by, Mikel Merino might be Newcastle United’s best signing this season.
The 21-year-old joined Newcastle on a season-long loan from Borussia Dortmund last month.

The Spanish midfielder made waves in pre-season with a few exciting performances and has started two of the Magpies’ three Premier League game so far.
He hasn’t done a great deal under Rafael Benitez as of yet, but his opening goal in Spain Under-21s friendly with Italy tonight should illustrate that he could be a bit special.
Merino nutmegged an Italian defender in the box before stroking a left-footed effort beyond the goalkeeper in a finish which underlines his talent.

Naturally, Newcastle fans were loving the goal as they responded on Twitter.
If he produces magic like that for the St James’s Park club then Newcastle fans will be hoping that manager Rafael Benitez – if he’s still there – can secure a permanent deal for him next summer.
