Newcastle United have moved back to the top of the Championship via wins over Brighton and Huddersfield this week, but which players do fans feel have under-performed for them this season?
As many expected, Newcastle United have been in excellent form this season. Moving five points clear at the top of the Championship table this weekend after a win against fellow promotion contenders Huddersfield Town, the Magpies are looking set for a quick return to the Premier League.
Their squad, which has been put together to perfection by manager Rafa Benitez, is arguably the best in the Championship, and many wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of Newcastle United players picking up awards at the end of the season. Players such as Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle have all been in outstanding form for the Magpies this season, but have any players in particular disappointed Newcastle United fans?
With this in mind, HITC Sport went to meet Newcastle United fans, to gather their thoughts and opinions…
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez speaks to players
A couple of Newcastle United fans highlighted Serbian striker, Aleksander Mitrovic as the player they feel hasn’t been up to scratch this season. One fan suggested that “everyone can see he’s got passion, but if it comes to passion, that means all of us fans who support Newcastle can put on a Newcastle shirt. Definitely not.” A scathing review from a Newcastle United fan, who may be forgetting the 36 goals he scored in Belgium.
“Murphy’s come in and taken his place” added the Newcastle United fan, who clearly hasn’t been impressed with the Serbian this season. “Mitro’s on fire? He’s not anymore” added another Magpies fan.
Another Newcastle fan mentioned Jack Colback, highlighting the former Sunderland midfielder’s passion for passing the ball backwards or sideways.
