Newcastle United fans have been talking about the Championship teams who have given them a run for their money this season, including Fulham and Leeds United.

Despite a somewhat shaky start, it’s ended up being an excellent season for Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United. After relegation to the Championship at the end of last season, many were wondering whether the Magpies would bounce straight back or struggle in the lower division. However, after securing the popular Benitez in the summer, Newcastle United have rebuilt perfectly.

And now, with the Premier League waiting, Newcastle United fans can look back at the last season with a sense of relief. They certainly haven’t run away with the league this season, and have at times come to realise just how difficult a league the Championship can be. But who has been the Magpies toughest opponents this season? Do any teams stick out? Are there any Newcastle fans are happy to not have to face again next season?

HITC Sport went to meet Newcastle United supporters, to find out their views and opinions.

Plenty of Newcastle United fans named Fulham as the best teams they’d seen this season. “They played us off the park” said one Newcastle United fan, “they kept the ball, passed the ball well, they didn’t give it away daftly, they defended well, they worked harder than us on the day, everything! I’m shocked they’re just in the play-offs now!”

“Leeds United are pretty canny” said another Newcastle United fan, “they’re a good side.” Another Newcastle United fan added “probably Brighton. They’ve been the best team we’ve faced this season.” Another fan added “We struggled against them this year.”
