With Newcastle having just missed out on the chance to bring back Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace, how would the Geordies have felt about his return?
With the clock ticking away on the final day of the January transfer window, many Newcastle United and Crystal Palace fans expected to see a deal agreed between the two clubs for former Magpies winger Andros Townsend to rejoin the club.
However, much to the dismay of both sets of fans, no such transfer occurred, leaving Newcastle United fans largely disappointed that their former winger would not be coming back to help aide their promotion push.
But how would Newcastle United fans have really felt about Townsend’s return? During his time at St James’ Park, the former Tottenham winger split opinion, and his openness to seek a Premier League transfer rather than help the Magpies back to the top flight through promotion could also have blighted any positive opinion on him. “Sam Allardyce doesn’t like our owners, so he’s not going to do us any favours!” claimed one Newcastle United fan, who seemed to have his own theory as to why Andros Townsend hadn’t returned this month to St James Park. Another fan suggested that Benitez most likely didn’t want to see Townsend go in the first place, as the Spaniard likes to play with wide players.
“Not too disappointed he hasn’t come back” said one Newcastle United fan, “if he didn’t want to leave then he shouldn’t of gone in the first place”.
“I wouldn’t of given him a second chance” added another Newcastle fan, whereas another mentioned “I would of loved to have seen Townsend back, but I wouldn’t of wanted to see Mbemba go the other way…he’s our best centre half!”
