Rodrigo Bentancur could start his second Tottenham match on Saturday evening as Spurs take on Manchester City this weekend – and he looks in fine fettle in training, scoring a delightful first-time effort in training.

The 24-year-old is yet to taste victory in the Premier League – coming on as a sub in the FA Cup win over Brighton. He was a sub against Southampton and started in the 2-0 loss to Wolves last Sunday.

If any of Tottenham’s players played well on Sunday, it was probably Bentancur above others. But even he could not prevent Tottenham’s woeful defending from stopping defeat. Now, they take on Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side are on fire at the moment – winning 12 of their last 13 games, drawing against Southampton. The chances are that Spurs and Bentancur will suffer a fourth straight Premier League defeat.

But it looks like Bentancur’s confidence is high and will be going into the match in good form. That is, judging by a video posted by Tottenham on Twitter – which sees him score a wonderful first-time goal in training.

Bentancur goal: How should Tottenham line-up against City?

The Uruguay international was a rare positive against Wolves and he has got to start against Manchester City. Spurs have looked their best when Antonio Conte plays with three central midfielders.

Against Leicester, Spurs were excellent and although it took two late goals from Steven Bergwijn to win – the North Londoners were the better side by miles. Perhaps, Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should start too.

Alongside Bentancur, Winks and Hojbjerg would give Spurs a hard-working defensive base that is needed against a brilliant City side.
