Having performed admirably for Middlesbrough so far this season, Ben Gibson has been touted for an England call-up. But just how good is he?

It’s not every day that a football fan can claim that a star player and Chairman of their football club are related, but this is the case for Middlesbrough fans.

Joining the Middlesbrough youth setup at the age of 12, Ben Gibson endured a number of loan spells at Plymouth Argyle, York City and Tranmere Rovers until the 2013/14 season, where Gibson broke into Tony Mowbray’s first team.

As the nephew of Boro Chairman, Steve Gibson, perhaps it was set in stone that Ben Gibson would end up playing for Boro, but regardless of his family ties, the young centre-back has won the hearts of Boro fans for his continuously excellent displays.

Tall, strong, with an excellent ability in the air, Gibson reminds many Boro fans of a young John Terry, and after Boro’s decent start to the Premier League season, some are wondering whether or not their captain might end up playing for England. With this in mind, HITC Sport asked Boro fans for their thoughts on their promising defender.

“He’s improved over the last couple of seasons beyond belief” suggested one Boro fan, with another suggesting that, with Leicester’s season last year in mind, that Boro “might win the league with him”. Most Boro fans also seemed in agreement that Gibson would one day play for England, rating the defender at the over £30million mark.
