The West Ham United winger has been called up in Sam Allardyce’s first Three Lions squad after continuing to find the net for the Hammers.
West Ham United’s Michail Antonio celebrates scoring
West Ham United star Michail Antonio has been captured all smiles as he arrives at the England headquarters at St Geroge’s Park, in a video published on the FA’s Twitter account.
Antonio has been named in new manager Sam Allardyce’s England group – the only uncapped individual to be brought into a group that disappointed at the European Championships.
The winger is arguably the major talking point from Allardyce’s maiden squad, though reports suggesting his inclusion is a surprise have clearly not been paying attention to the 26-year-old’s attacking influence for the Hammers over the last nine months.
Antonio has been utilised in a number of positions by Slaven Bilic since the Croat took charge of the Hammers, and has found himself playing fullback more often than he or supporters would like. But he has remained a goal threat whenever he comes forward mainly due to the aerial threat he offers.
Last year he scored nine times after his move to Upton park, and the former Nottingham Forest winger has already scored two headers this season, bringing his goal total to 11 in 39 matches, and ten in 29 Premier League games.
The Hammers star will now be hoping he can demonstrate his quality for Allardyce in training first and foremost, and then hopefully when he wins his first international cap when England open their World Cup qualifying campaign against Slovakia on Sunday.
