Manchester United have long been linked with Nicolas Gaitan – Here’s why…
As long as a year ago, various newspapers – The Telegraph most vociferously – were claiming that the summer transfer of Nicolas Gaitan to Manchester United was a done deal.
It never materialised, and at Portuguese club Benfica he remains; perhaps it was just as well because the fates would not have conspired to allow him to score this sensational volley.
It came in a game last night against Estoril after Oscar Cardozo floated in a corner; Argentine Gaitan met the ball first and volleyed a spinning backheel over the defence and into the net.
The goal is one of those you will want to watch again and again, to wonder just quite how he did it.
