After smashing Manchester City 4-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday, which Manchester team do the fans prefer to beat, United or City?

If the question were asked 25 years ago, supporters of most football clubs would likely name Manchester United as their favourite team to beat. Arguably the biggest club in the world in terms of wealth and success, Manchester United have sustained their title as a giant of world football for years, thanks to a legacy built by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, all that changed after Ferguson retired. Success has been much harder to come by for United under Moyes and van Gaal, and in their slump, their noisy neighbours got noisier. Now with two Premier League titles to their name, Manchester City have shown they can match their rivals United in spending and in success, managing to attract some of the world’s best players to their side, as well as the world’s most highly rated manager.

So which Manchester side is the bigger scalp now? HITC Sport asked Everton fans for their thoughts…

“Both” answered one Everton, who mentioned that Manchester United fans just edged it. The historical significance behind beating Manchester United was clearly still present in Everton fans minds. A lot of Everton fans also suggested it was much more satisfying, mostly due to the Wayne Rooney saga. Rooney, an Everton youth graduate, left for Manchester United back in 2004.

It looks like, for Everton fans, old rivalries mean much more than the new money of modern football.
