With the race for the top four hotting up, will Manchester United qualify for next season’s Champions League?
After a couple of years of stagnation under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal; Manchester United fans were delighted to see the arrival of former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford. A proven winner in the Premier League, the Portuguese manager looked like just the man to send the Red Devils back to the lofty heights of the top division.
But this first season has been largely difficult for one of England’s biggest clubs. Mourinho has had to work hard to get his multiple mega-money signings to gel on the pitch, and the club currently sit four points away from the top four, just behind rivals Manchester City. However, with the club still in the Europa League, Champions League qualification is still on the cards whether they can catch Manchester City or not.

When asked for her opinion of Manchester United’s top four chances, one fan said “very slim.” Others shared her sentiments, concerned that the club would struggle to catch Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, though not everyone was so pessimistic. One Manchester United fan highlighted City’s defence as a weak point, and suggested that their dodgy defending might just give the Red Devils a chance.
“If we were better at home, we’d be comfortably in the top four” added another Manchester United fan, whereas another said “United away from home and United at home are two different teams.” It’s hard to believe that the club have been struggling for wins at Old Trafford. Even after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, Manchester United’s home form has always been something the club have been able to hold on to.
