One fan speculated that he will return to his homeland when his contract expires, joining the Rafalution at Newcastle United. Carrick was born in the North East and grew up as a fan of the Magpies. A move to St James’ Park would certainly excite Newcastle fans, and the midfielder was linked with a move earlier in the summer by the Chronicle before he signed a deal to remain at Manchester United.
