Kevin De Bruyne and Son Heung-min appear to have a pretty decent friendship.

The pair have often been seen embracing each other when Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur face each other.

Where does that come from? They’ve never been on the same team. Maybe they just know each other from their time in the Bundesliga; De Bruyne turned out for Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg whilst Son was with Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen.

The duo both made big moves in the summer of 2015, and have been two of the Premier League’s top players in recent years.

On Sunday, they face off once again. This time, the Carabao Cup was up for grabs as City and Spurs faced off at Wembley Stadium.

It was De Bruyne who came out on top, as City claimed a 1-0 victory – and it was De Bruyne who crossed for Aymeric Laporte to score the winner.

It wasn’t Son’s day at all. The South Korean offered little in the final third, and seemed scared to take on former teammate Kyle Walker, instead going backwards all too often.

He was visibly upset at full time, as the prospect of silverware evaded him again. De Bruyne took the time out to go and console Son, which was a nice bit of sportsmanship from the Belgian.

Who knows though – maybe he fancies playing with Son at City? Few could blame the Spurs star for feeling that he would need to move for silverware, and joining forces with De Bruyne could be devastating.

Maybe something for Pep Guardiola to think about.
