Last night, Manchester City recorded a 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Quarter-Final clash.

Interestingly, the Spanish champions failed to have a single shot at the Etihad Stadium, with Luis Suarez – a man who surely would’ve tested Ederson at least once – failing to get off the bench.

Pep Guardiola will have been pleased to see the Uruguayan left on the sidelines, and Manchester City fans will have also enjoyed seeing what the 35-year-old did before kick-off.

What’s the story?

Well, the former Liverpool man clearly has a lot of respect for the Citizens, as he was filmed telling his teammates not to step on the club crest.

As you can see above, the South American made sure not to tread on Manchester City’s badge as he walked onto the Etihad Stadium pitch, and also told Rodrigo de Paul not to step on it either.

Having gained a reputation in England for being something of a bad boy during his Liverpool days, some supporters may be surprised to see this.

Nevertheless, despite the Citizens ruining Suarez’s best chance of a Premier League title with Liverpool, he clearly doesn’t have any ill feelings towards Manchester City.

Atlético Madrid must do more against Manchester City

Of course, the Etihad Stadium is not any easy place to go, but it’s inexcusable for Atlético Madrid not to have a single shot.

When Guardiola takes his side to the Wanda Metropolitano, the Spanish champions will have to up their game significantly if they want to reach the Semi-Final stage.

With just 29% possession as well, Atlético Madrid were hammered in every sense other than the scoreline in Manchester last night.

Hopefully, we’re treated to a more even game in Madrid when the second leg takes place on Wednesday 13th April.
