HITC Sport has taken a look at what Liverpool’s team in 2022 is expected to look like according to Football Manager 2017.

With Jurgen Klopp guiding Liverpool back into the Premier League’s top four this past season, Reds supporters would be forgiven for starting to dream about what the team could potentially achieve the longer the German remains in charge.
With that in mind, HITC Sport has used Football Manager 2017 to provide an insight into what the future may hold for Liverpool.
Heading to the year 2022, the Reds are now led by Vincenzo Montella with Klopp being dismissed back in 2018, and the Italian has led the side to one trophy – the Europa League – during his tenure.
But what team is Montella working with for their victory over Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the 2022/23 season?
GK: Geronimo Rulli
FM 2017 sees Liverpool pay Real Sociedad £25 million for the goalkeeper. Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have moved on.
RB: Jon Flanagan
Jon Flanagan has finally become a regular first-team player. His chances of breaking into the current side perhaps look bleak, but there may be some hope for the academy graduate it seems.
Mamadou Sakho
CB: Mamadou Sakho
Mamadou Sakho – who has been exiled under Klopp in reality – is not only back in the Liverpool fold in 2022, but he is also the side’s captain, even with Jordan Henderson still at the club.
CB: Michael Keane
Former Manchester United defender Michael Keane joined Liverpool for £25 million in the summer of 2017, so perhaps some Reds fans may be willing Klopp to make the same move happen in real life – despite his previous allegiances.
LB: Alex Telles
Alex Telles cost Liverpool £28 million, while this past season’s left-back James Milner now plies his trade in MLS and Alberto Moreno now plays for West Ham.
RM: Domenico Grotti
Domenico Grotti is one of Liverpool’s most creative players by the time 2022 rolls around, but before Reds fans potentially get excited, the reason you probably haven’t heard of him is that he is a regen player.
Jordan Henderson
CM: Jordan Henderson
Jordan Henderson is now beginning his 12th season with the Reds, but is now vice-captain. Meanwhile, current talisman Philippe Coutinho now plays for Real Madrid, initially leaving Liverpool for Tottenham for £43 million.
CM: Leon Goretzka
Leon Goretzka is keeping Josh Onomah out of the team currently, despite the fact that Liverpool could have to pay Tottenham £52 million for the latter.
LM: Goncalo Guedes
Goncalo Guedes made his Reds debut in this clash with Nottingham Forest, contributing an assist. He could cost the club £59 million following his move from Tottenham.
Divock Origi
ST: Divock Origi
Divock Origi is wearing the famous number seven shirt and has become something of a focal point up front. He scored both goals in the win over Forest.
ST: Phillip Bomheuer
Phillip Bomheuer is another regen, having arrived from Borussia Dortmund for £30 million. He scored 19 goals during his first campaign with the club, keeping transfer listed Roberto Firmino out of the team.
