With Jamie Vardy having bagged just five league goals this term, is Leicester City’s 15/16 hero just a one-season wonder?

Known as the man who fired Leicester City to Premier League glory in 15/16, Jamie Vardy’s rise to fame is arguably one of the most remarkable in world football. In 2011, Vardy left Halifax Town for Fleetwood, and just five years later found himself lifting the Premier League trophy and featuring for the England at the Euros.

But this season has been a different story. Leicester City have struggled to balance their Premier League commitments with their Champions League and Cup competition fixtures, and are now sloping closer and closer to the bottom three. Vardy, who was so important to the Foxes title winning side, has scored just 5 goals in 20 league appearances so far this season, and has been struggling to make the kind of impact on games that were were so used to seeing last year.

So what’s happened to Jamie Vardy? Have the goals dried up? Or is he just one lucky break away from finding his form again? HITC Sport asked Leicester City fans for their views and opinions…

Plenty of Leicester City fans were quick to point out that Jamie Vardy wasn’t quite getting the same service. Perhaps this could be down to the differing of some of Leicester’s other players, such as Riyad Mahrez, and the disappearance of midfielder N’Golo Kante, who joined Chelsea in the summer.

Some Leicester fans also pointed to the poor form of Danny Drinkwater, whose passes were so vital to Leicester in tearing apart opposition defences last season. Can Vardy really be blamed for his drop in goals if he’s just not getting the same kind of chances he has had over the last few seasons?

“He’ll score another 10 goals this season and keep us up” said one adamant Leicester City fan, who seemed assured his team wouldn’t be setting a new record as the first ever Premier League champions to be relegated the following season.
