With last season’s shock title winners in the throes of a relegation dogfight, what has been the reason for Leicester City’s downturn in form?

It was the season that shocked world football. After escaping relegation in dramatic fashion the season before under Nigel Pearson, many expected Leicester City to be fighting relegation once more when they appointed Italian manager, Claudio Ranieri. The former Chelsea boss had endured a poor tenure in charge of Greece, and pundits and ex-pros alike openly mocked the appointment.

However, after a season they were all made to eat their words, as the Tinkerman guided Leicester City to their first ever Premier League title. It was a win that stunned journalists and fans across the globe, and something many believe could never happen again. But what did the future hold for the Foxes?

The answer? A tough old season. Falling back to the relegation dog-fight many expected initially under Ranieri, the Foxes have struggled this season to balance their Champions League commitments, and could well become the first Premier League champions to be relegated in the following season. So what’s gone wrong? HITC Sport asked Leicester City fans for their views…

“It’s quite a few things that haven’t quite clicked” said one Leicester fan, who was struggling to pin down one major issue. Another fan suggested that N’Golo Kante’s departure has been key to the Foxes’ demise this season, as the Frenchman was such an important linchpin in the Leicester midfield.

“It’s difficult to see if the desire is there for a lot of the players” said another Leicester fan, who questioned the commitment of some of the Foxes squad. Other fans also suggested that Leicester are just “missing that extra bit of luck” this season. Leicester City have noticably suffered from the change in rules regarding holding others players in the box as well, with Wes Morgan and Robert Huth the two big victims.
