Leeds United have high hopes for youngster Alfie McCalmont, and they will be glad to see him shining in pre-season training at Morecambe.
McCalmont has come up through the Leeds academy, but only has two first-team appearances to his name with the Whites.
That’s as many appearances as he has for the Northern Irish senior national team, so it’s clear that McCalmont has talent.
Leeds decided to send the midfielder out on loan last season, allowing him to spend the season with Oldham Athletic – and what a season he had.
The 21-year-old hit eight goals and five assists in 35 league outings for Oldham, and the natural next step in his development is a campaign in League One.
Morecambe have swooped to sign McCalmont on loan for the season having won promotion to the third tier, and he already seems to be making a positive impression.

Morecambe have posted a video to Twitter today showing McCalmont smashing a screamer into the roof of the net from the right flank during training, telling him to ‘take a bow’.
It’s clear that McCalmont is a major goal threat from midfield, and another strong campaign this season would surely put him in the frame for consideration at Leeds moving forward.
