With the race for promotion hotting up and Leeds United looking set to secure a Championship play-off spot for the first time since 2006, are the Elland Road faithful nervous?
Sitting comfortably in the play-off places, Leeds United are raring up for their biggest chance at promotion back to the Premier League since their relegation in 2004. Garry Monk, who only arrived at Elland Road in the summer, has transformed the club back from a sleeping, stuttering giant into a genuine promotion contender.
But can they do it? The turnaround at Elland Road has come about much faster than any could predict, and just missing out on promotion would be no disaster. However, with the untold riches of the Premier League at stake, Leeds fans will be desperate for success.
So are Leeds United fans nervous? HITC Sport went to visit them, to find out…
Leeds United’s Robert Green (L) and Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson celebrate
Asked how he was feeling, one Leeds United fan said he was “confident” about the club’s run in, whereas others said they were “optimistic” and “very nervous.” Which so much at stake, we can hardly blame Leeds fans for feeling the nerves of late!
“[I’m] very nervous, but I still think we’re going to go up!” added another Leeds United, who was trying his best to stay optimistic. “It’s a confident nervous, if you know what I mean!” added another Leeds fan, whereas another supporter said “It’s a nervous excitement…or perhaps disbelief!”
Whether they get promoted or not, there’s no doubting what an excellent season Leeds United have had, and just how far the sleeping giant have come compared the the days spent under such managerial royalty as Dave Hockaday and Darko Milanic.
