Leeds were linked to Matt Derbyshire in the summer

The first name linked to Leeds United this summer after Thomas Christiansen was appointed as manager was Matt Derbyshire.
The former Rotherham striker finished as top scorer in Cyprus last season where Christiansen was managing APOEL, and The Mail reported he was wanted by the Leeds boss.
Derbyshire’s record in English football has always been a lot less productive than abroad.

He has never scored more than 10 goals in a season in England, but netted 27 times last season for Omonia Nicosia.
Derbyshire has begun this season well, scoring four goals in five games… but should really have added to his tally at the weekend, producing a quite terrible miscue when through on goal.
Derbyshire’s strong record in Cyprus should garner respect for what he has achieved, but his miss reinforces the idea that Leeds bringing him back to England would have been a gamble.
Fans are unlikely to be unhappy at missing out.
