Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey celebrates with the Newcastle fans
“Better than last!” was the phrase used by one Newcastle United fan to describe his feelings about this season, whose memories of their disastrous relegation from the Premier League were still lingering in the background.
Another fan’s reaction was “Sh*te, we want to win [the league] by 100 points or more.” Perhaps simply winning the league isn’t quite enough for some Toon supporters?
“We’re top of the league, but we should have a gap” added another Newcastle United supporter, whereas another added “I’d liked to have been 10 points clear.” Are Toon fans asking too much of their team? Or is this exactly what they should have expected?
“I think we’ve just underestimated the rest of the league” said one Newcastle United fan. If there’s one thing the Geordies will take from this season, it’s that the Championship is no walk in the park.
