It’s nine years since Manchester City were taken over by Sheikh Mansour, but they have just two Premier League titles to show for it. Underachieving or a work in progress?
It’s now been nine years since big revolution in Manchester, where City, or ‘the noisy neighbours’ as they have been known, were taken over by Sheikh Mansour. Since then, Manchester City have transformed from a team who’s best players were Richard Dunne and Martin Petrov, to a squad filled with such superstars as Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and David Silva.
But with just two Premier League titles to their name, have the Manchester club actually underachieved? Considering the huge money they’ve spent, and the numbers of high profile managers they’ve had at the club, you could certainly argue that the Blues could be doing better.
So how do Manchester City fans feel about the club’s progress? HITC Sport asked supporters for their views and opinions on their side’s progress.

“If you don’t win the league, it’s always going to be an underachievement, so yes” said one Manchester City fan, who clearly liked to see his team competing for the title. Another fan said “Yes. I think we were treading water under Pellegrini, waiting for Guardiola. I just don’t think we progressed under the three years Pellegrini was manager.” Manchester City did win one title under the Chilean, however.
“Has Guardiola improved us significantly this year? No, I don’t think he has” added another Manchester City fan, who hasn’t been impressed by what he’s seen this season. Other fans however were certain their Spanish manager would come good, and replicate the kind of successes he had at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
